Making Waves Together is an exciting new project offering free water sports sessions for families in the St Peter and Waterfront Ward of Plymouth (PL1 and PL2), or for anyone with a child at the Plymouth School of Creative Arts.
We run taster events – with a small contribution towards a family friendly celebration at the end of the season. These or in so you can find out which activities your family enjoys most, with a follow on series of session so that you can really develop your skills and get to grips with paddling, sailing, swimming, or surfing. Everyone also gets the chance to stay on the incredible Lynher barge, a once in a life time opportunity!
The city of Plymouth and our surrounding coast has lots to offer in and on the water, but it can be hard to know where to start or how to get involved. Making Waves Together makes it easy! You don’t need any previous experience and activities are designed for the whole family, so everyone can have a go. The activities are run by water sports experts and all the equipment is provided for free too!
Have you ever imagined the tranquility of being in a sail boat, the waves quietly lapping against the hull, the sails flapping gently in the breeze? Or the excitement of crewing a boat out in open water, navigating the wind and waves? Well, now is your chance!
Hosted by Plymouth youth sailing out of the Mountbatten centre, Making Waves Together has opportunities for all the whole family to learn how to crew and sail a boat.
Join Cornwall Surf Academy to learn how to ride the waves! The academy is located on the stunning National Trust beach of Holywell Bay, Newquay. All transport is provided to get you there and back from Plymouth.
You’ll spend a day on the beach and in the sea with fully qualified surf GB qualified instructors in a very special and unspoiled location. Boards and wetsuits are provided, all you’ll neeed is a swimming costume towel and refreshments for the day.
A super safe way for the whole family to get out on the water. Paddle sports can be on the sea or the river and you can sit down or stand up! These are run by Mountbatten Water Sports Centre.
As part of Making Waves Together we are thrilled to offer you a totally unique experience – a residential aboard the restored Tamar sailing barge, ‘Lyhner’. The barge is an impressive 52’ long, so there’s plenty of space for communal living, and she also carries an array of water sports equipment.
The 3 day residential will give your family a chance to spend time together in the fresh air, learning about crewing this amazing ship, and benefiting from the beautiful part of the world we live in.
